This course is run as a full face-to-face course where 4 hours should be allowed to complete

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace.
The unit applies to workers in nominated occupational first aid or management roles.
- State/Federal legislation documentation
- Legal responsibilities and duty of care
- Occupational First Aider responsibilities
- First aid rooms and kits requirements
- Safety hazards
- Storage and use of equipment in line with relevant legislation and manufacturers/suppliers instructions
- Maintaining workplace first aid records
- Work health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid
- Priorities of management in first aid and deployment of assets
- Procedures for dealing with major and minor accidents in the workplace
- Safe storage and handling of medication in the workplace
- Contribute to a review of workplace policies and procedures and the provision of risk management

For this unit, there are both written and practical tasks to complete.
A brief overview of the practical tasks are:
- conducted a workplace risk assessment and evaluation of first aid provisions
- developed a first aid action plan including strategies for management of incidents and individuals needs in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
- used a first aid checklist to service a workplace first aid kit for supplies’ replacement and equipment maintenance
- maintained first aid equipment and resources according to manufacturers’ instructions
- used and maintained documentation required by the workplace and regulatory authorities.
The written tasks are to incident reporting and complete a knowledge assessment.

Literacy and numeracy skills needed to complete this course should be high enough that each student is able to individually complete risk assessments, develop a first aid response plan, use a first aid checklist for supplies and maintenance of equipment and use and maintain documentation.
Trainees with special needs either physical difficulties or literacy difficulties, should contact our office prior to enrolling so that assistance can be arranged for you.

Students will be notified by H & A Training RTO 90871 in the event that there are any changes to the provider or unit/s the student is enrolled in.
