- The Australian Resuscitation Councils (ARC) recommends that CPR is renewed annually and First Aid every 3 years.

- All students must:
- Be aged 16 or above. Exceptions can be found under the Enrolment Policy.

This unit has two modes of delivery:
It can be run as a blended course with prior learning to be done with 8 hour face-to-face component to follow
or
Full face to face where 16 hours should be allowed

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in a remote or isolated site over an extended period of time until medical assistance is provided, or evacuation occurs.
This unit applies to any site where medical assistance is likely to be delayed.
Successful completion of this course will provide trainees with the knowledge and skills to be able to provide first aid where medical assistance is likely to be delayed. It provides background knowledge of the causes, symptoms and the effects of injuries, as well as emergency treatment.

For this unit, there are both written and practical tasks to complete.
A brief overview of the practical tasks are:
- Managing the unconscious non breathing adult including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manakin placed on the floor with rescue ventilations
- Managing the breathing unconscious casualty
- Managing the unconscious non-breathing infant including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manakin placed on a firm surface with rescue ventilations
- Managed casualties with:
- anaphylaxis
- asthma
- non-life-threatening bleeding
- choking
- minor wound cleaning and dressing
- nosebleed
- shock
- envenomation, using pressure immobilisation
- fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains, using appropriate immobilisation techniques for remote situations and appropriate equipment improvisations
- head, neck and spinal injuries
- hypothermia and hyperthermia
- life threatening bleeding requiring use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Conducted a basic triage for a multiple casualty incident
- Responding to at least one simulated incident with no knowledge of the casualty’s condition.
The written tasks are to complete an incident report and complete a knowledge assessment.

Third Party Providers
We also have many third party providers in which case training and assessment is delivered on behalf of H&A Training RTO 90871. If completing a course through a third party provider, please arrange and contact the third party in this case.
Literacy and numeracy skills needed to complete this course should be high enough that each student is able to individually read clinical values and complete more in-depth reporting and communication.
Trainees with special needs either physical difficulties or literacy difficulties, should contact our office prior to enrolling so that assistance can be arranged for you.

Students do not need to bring any learning materials or resources with them to complete this course.
